First prize winner Elvira Wersche!

The judges comments on her work:- ‘Elvira Wersche ‘Sammlung' is an exemplary example of commitment and dedication to a process – the accumulation of samples of sand from different locations around the world. Whilst simple in concept, the execution of the drawings themselves is meticulous. The resulting installation is fragile and beautiful, like many of our environments. There is also a sense of timeless fascination with the innumerable nuances of colour which takes us all the way back to cave painting and our desire to make sense of this place where we live.' Elvira was in Aberdeen for four full days creating her sand piece. Elvira said “I was very pleased to be invited to participate in this exciting exhibition concept of Fabric of the Land. For me art and science have had a strong connection for a long time. They are inspired and fed from the same fountain/well. I am pleased that I won the first award and once again I would like to thank everyone involved in this exhibition. It was a very nice work period in Aberdeen, and I have gained a lot of new inspiration.”
